The Bugatti Chiron is a true marvel of engineering not only in the speeds it can achieve, but also how comfortably it can achieve them. And with no frame of reference, it’s easy to take for granted how fast that car’s top speed really is. But thanks to this video of a Chiron travelling at nearly top speed down the autobahn, we can get a better idea.
We actually featured this speed run a few weeks ago, but due to popular demand, Radim Passer, the video’s creator, has released the raw GoPro footage to get a better taste of what it’s like to hit top speed in a Chiron.
The video shows the car reaching 259 mph (417 km/h), or just 2 mph (3 km/h) shy of the car’s electronically limited 261 mph (420 km/h) top speed. In the original video, there was only the car’s speedometer to verify its speed, which usually isn’t 100 percent accurate. However, this new video shows the speed verified by GPS, meaning this Chiron did hit the speed we saw.
While watching the Chiron blast by the other cars like they’re standing still, it makes you think about how much trust one would need to have not only in the car, seeing as the slightest incorrect steering input could send you into a guardrail at that speed, but also the road, as even relatively minor imperfections in the surface could spell disaster for a car traveling at around one third the speed of sound.
Nevertheless, the feat in incredibly impressive and likely much harder than it appears on camera, and to watch it for yourself, you can check it out in the video below.
