The latest creation to come from the Ringbrothers’ Wisconsin shop is a modernized 1969 Dodge Charger powered by the almighty Hellcat Mopar V8 crate engine. It’s called “CAPTIV” and it has been made for one of the biggest car nuts in the antipodes.

Built for race car driver and TV personality Greg Murphy, the Kiwi-born athlete has won 22 races in the V8 SuperTourer series and 28 races in the Supercars Championship so he’s comfortable with a little muscle. It was, in fact, his team that started this build, disassembling and prepping the car in New Zealand before sending it stateside to be completed by the Ringbrothers.

Once the ’69 Charger arrived, the Ringbrothers team did extensive metalwork that included integrating a Flowmaster exhaust system. A custom “Pile Up Yellow” paint job was applied and staggered 19-inch front and 20-inch rear HRE custom wheels with back and chrome accent fitted.

Naturally, the muscled-up Dodge is about more than looks. Under the hood, it’s packing a 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat V8 crate engine pumping out 707 hp (717 PS/527 kW)  paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox from Treme. The team also installed a QA1 carbon fiber driveshaft and adjustable shocks, Baer six-piston brakes, and those HRE wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.

Inside, meanwhile, the car features a completely overhauled and modernized interior. Beyond the Recaro sport seats, the ’69 Charger also features a special steering wheel built by the Ringbrothers with spokes made of billet aluminum, while the hoop is made of carbon fiber, and the horn button has been 3D printed. If it looks good to you, the team has a line of steering wheels for sale.

“This project has been years in the making,” said Ringbrothers co-owner Jim Ring. “The project was started more than 8,000 miles from where it was finished with work being carried out on either side of the Pacific. Greg and his team did phenomenal work before it came here, and it was a joy to work on such an amazing build together.”
