China’s Asiastar has unveiled the X9-3, a high-end tourist coach whose exterior design has been completed by Pininfarina.
“This new bus is targeted at the domestic high-end tourism market and overseas high-end market, and represents a brand new platform for Asiastar Bus’ high-end tourism buses,” said Jia Kaiqian, General Manager of Asiastar. “The styling and interior give a refreshing feeling, and the quality and performance of the product has been taken to a new level.”
The avant-garde shape of the bus is intended to combine Italian industrial design concepts with modern Chinese fashion to create an elegant and luxurious look. The design is also intended to be lightweight to help the powertrain deal with every hill and run as efficiently as possible.

“Asiastar X9-3 opens to a new generation of high-end tourism buses, where unrivaled comfort matches the highest technology: design expresses those values with a modern and innovative language, with dynamic exterior lines and a sophisticated interior,” said Kevin Rice, Pininfarina‘s chief creative officer. “On the exterior, developed in Italy, the front looks protected by the two sides thanks to innovative graphics: an aluminum blade connecting all these elements gives dynamism and luxury feeling. At the rear, very distinctive graphics and technological tail lamps create a distinctive character.”
Designed collaboratively between Shanghai and Italy, the teams want to create a state-of-the-art experience that is so good that it encourages travelers to choose it over their car. The passengers’ and driver’s needs have, of course, also been considered.
“The interior has a Driver Oriented structure for the best comfort and safety of the driver: it is a modern dynamic wrap around the driver and newly re-interpreted Asiastar design language,” said Matteo Piguzzi, head of design at Pininfarina Shanghai. “The Coach Area is unique with high-quality details to create a unique and exclusive traveling experience.”
Currently presented as a prototype, the X9-3 was unveiled at Asiastar’s business conference in Yangzhou.
