While the new Ford Bronco serves as the first legitimate rival to the Jeep Wrangler in many years, U.S. sales figures for 2021 reveal that it is the Jeep that easily outsold both the regular Bronco and the smaller Bronco Sport combined, though the former was available from June.
U.S. sales numbers released by Ford reveal that from June to December 2021, it managed to sell 35,023 examples of the Bronco. December proved to be a particularly strong month for the Bronco with 9,168 examples sold, eclipsing the 8,287 units sold in November and the 3,396 sold in September.
Importantly, sales of the Ford Bronco only officially started in June 2021, even though the off-roader was available to pre-order and reserve well before that. With this in mind, we expect 2022 sales figures to be much more significant.

As for the Ford Bronco Sport, it continues to easily out-sell the Bronco and was on sale for all 12 months of 2021. A total of 108,169 examples found new homes, with 6,278 of those sales coming in December. Combined, the two Bronco models sold 143,192 units.
Jeep delivered nearly twice as many Wranglers in Q4 than Ford Broncos
While Ford will probably be quite happy with these sales figures, they fall well behind the Jeep Wrangler. Throughout 2021, no less than 204,610 Wranglers were sold, representing the off-roader’s best year since 2018. Of these sales, 49,646 were delivered in Q1, 69,020 in Q2, 46,044 were recorded in Q3, and 39,900 Wranglers in Q4 – or nearly twice the number of Broncos (20,851 units) delivered in the same period.
Speaking about Ford more broadly, it managed to sell a total of 508,451 vehicles in the fourth quarter. By comparison, FCA US sold 411,513 vehicles in the final three months of the year.
