An 862 hp (643 kW / 874 PS) Subaru WRX STI starred in Gymkhana 2020, but this year will be very different as Travis Pastrana will be driving a 1983 Subaru GL wagon.
Unveiled earlier today, the modified model features an aggressive exterior with a honeycomb mesh grille, an extended front bumper, and a ventilated hood. They’re joined by a side exiting exhaust, extended fender flares, and wide side skirts.
The special touches don’t end there as the wagon sports minimalist side mirrors, a rear spoiler, and a diffuser. We can also see bronze wheels wrapped in Yokohama tires. Rounding out the highlights are a special livery and what appears to be lightweight windows.

Subaru didn’t say much about the wagon, but Hoonigan revealed the latest installment of Gymkhana is coming soon and the GL will have around 900 hp (671 kW / 913 PS). Pastrana added when it gets airborne, it’ll be like a flying brick. He also noted the boxy design enables him to see where the corners are, so his proximity will be better and he’ll be able to be more precise.
That isn’t much to go on, but Pastrana’s wagon should be more than ten times as powerful as the standard model as the 1982, and presumably 1983, GL Wagon featured a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with 71 hp (53 kW / 72 PS) and 94 lb-ft (127 Nm) of torque. Those are laughable numbers these days, but the model tipped the scales at a mere 2,310 lbs (1,048 kg).
