The Volkswagen Amarok has once again been teased, this time towing a snowmobile in the snow. The image, drawn from inside another Amarok, gives us a little more insight into how similar the truck will be to the Ford Ranger, with which it shares its platform.
As we’ve seen before, the answer is quite similar but there are a few differences that we can pick out, even from this deliberately secretive shot. Although the infotainment elements seem to be quite similar, the top of the Amarok’s dash is quite flat and features stitching at the edge, unlike the Ford Ranger’s.
Compare the two trucks and you’ll see that the Ranger’s dash cascades down more flowingly than the Amarok’s. The Mustang Mach-E-like screen is also overlined by a slim readout with information about passenger airbags and the like. The VW, meanwhile, has a little cubby for your wallet. A previous teaser of its interior also shows that the passenger will get a little shelf next to the infotainment screen, which is nice.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ head of design, Albert-Johann Kirzinger, describes his team’s work: “The uncluttered architecture, the elements designed in a machine-like fashion, the clear, taut surfaces and a particularly high-quality cockpit raise the Volkswagen DNA to a new level and emphasizes the Amarok’s right to claim premium vehicle status.”
Beyond the appearance, VW promises that the new Amarok will be among the most advanced light pickups ever designed. With more driver-assist systems and plenty of connectivity tools, the truck will be thoroughly modern. The automaker also promises “innovations that have not been seen before in this segment.”
Available with a range of TDI diesel engines, the Amarok will feature a powerful V6 TDI engine and more besides depending on markets. Gas engines will also be offered.
Those excited for the new Amarok will have to wait until the summer before the truck is fully revealed. The Amarok will then be available to order in select markets at the end of 2022.
