Goodwood is one of those magical racing venues where miracles can happen. Take, for example, Tom Kristensen’s performance at the Gurney Cup at the 78th Goodwood Member’s Meeting this past October.

The Danish legend is a well-known fan of big American V8s, having previously shown his skill in a Ford Thunderbird. In a new video showing onboard footage, the racing legend shows his prowess yet again, carving through the field, and going from 18th to third in just 10 minutes.

Much like the car he’s wringing by the neck, Kristensen is a Le Mans legend. Having competed at the endurance event 18 times, he has a staggering 50 percent win rate. Frankly, the GT40 should be intimidated by Tom.

Finished in an Alan Mann racing livery, the pair were competing in the Gurney Cup for World Championship sportscars raced between 1960 and 1966. Per the race report, following an issue in qualifying, Kristensen was forced to start the race from the pits.

Following his remarkable performance, he handed the wheel back to the team’s second driver, Sam Hancock. At that point, he was 17 seconds behind the second-place McLaren driven by Andrew Wareing and just a second ahead of former pro racer Dario Franchitti.

Impressively, Hancock and Franchitti were able to keep pace despite their nearness and managed to catch up to Wareing, passing the McLaren with just 12 minutes to go. In the ensuing race to the flag, Hancock was able to keep Franchitti behind him, giving the car second place, a remarkable achievement considering its starting position.
