Zeekr is a relatively new brand, but the company aims to deliver the “world’s first consumer autonomous vehicles with L4 capabilities by 2024.”
In order to achieve this ambitious goal, they’ve teamed up with Mobileye to bring Level 4 semi-autonomous driving technology to consumers.
The company didn’t go into many specifics, but the vehicle will be based on Geely’s SEA architecture and feature six EyeQ 5 system-on-chips that “power an integration of Zeekr’s proprietary software technologies together with Mobileye True Redundancy sensing, Responsibility-Sensitive Safety-based driving policy, and a new open collaboration model on REM mapping technology.”

That’s vague, but Mobileye said the all-new electric vehicle is slated to be unveiled in China in 2024 and is expected to be the first consumer vehicle with Level 4 technology. The company went on to say “this new vehicle is expected to eventually roll out across global markets.”
The companies noted the agreement expands on their current partnership, which involves the development of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) for a variety of Zeekr models. They also said the upcoming L4 vehicle will have redundant braking and steering systems to maximize safety.
SAE International notes Level 4 systems allow for fully autonomous driving under “limited conditions and will not operate unless all required conditions are met.” As a result, Level 4 vehicles don’t require steering wheels or pedals. However, they’ll likely be found in the upcoming Zeekr as it won’t be fully autonomous and you’ll likely have to drive yourself in certain areas and conditions.
Zeekr began deliveries of its first product, the 001, in October and has plans to rapidly expand its lineup. As part of this effort, at least two new models will be introduced annually for the foreseeable future.
In a statement, Zeekr’s Andy An said “Mobileye has been a strategic partner to our mission of delivering lifestyle vehicles fit for a more sustainable and autonomous future of transportation.” He added, the “partnership supports Zeekr and Mobileye’s shared ambitions for leading the global ADAS and AV industry.”
