BMW recently hosted the press launch for the 2022 2-Series Active Tourer and has released hundreds of new photos of the car.
The veil was first lifted on the new 2-Series Active Tourer in October 2021. It was released in Europe earlier this month and while it adopts a similar overall shape to the first-generation model, both the exterior and interior designs have been overhauled to fit within BMW’s current design language.

The first aspect of the 2-Series Active Tourer that will catch your eye is of course the massive kidney grilles. BMW has also equipped the new model with additional front air intakes and a set of slim LED headlights. Some pretty obvious changes have also been made to the rear of the car, most notably with the fitment of distinctive LED taillights.
Move into the cabin and you will find some components that are not yet featured on a number of higher-end BMW models. Most notably, there is a large curved display encompassing the infotainment screen and digital instrument cluster, and running the same Operating System 8 with the i4 and iX. A number of other BMW models are expected to receive this same curved screen soon, including the facelifted 3-Series and 4-Series models.
Elsewhere, the 2-Series Active Tourer sports a floating center console with a small electronic shifter. Other key interior components include a leather-wrapped steering dual, dual-zone automatic climate control, four USB-C ports, and redesigned seats.
European shoppers have a host of powertrains to choose from. The highlight here is of course the new plug-in hybrid options, which will become available for order in the summer of 2022. These include the 225e xDrive and 230e xDrive models, with both of them pairing a turbocharged 1.5-liter with electric motors and a 14.9 kWh battery that will allow for electric-only ranges of up to 50 miles (80 km) in the WLTP cycle. The 225e will offer a combined output of 242 hp (180 kW / 245 PS) while the 230e gets an impressive 322 hp (240 kW / 326 PS).
The entry-level 218i is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder with 134 hp and 170 lb-ft (230 Nm) of torque while sitting above it is the 220i, fitted with the same engine but massaged to deliver 154 hp and 177 lb-ft (240 Nm). BMW is also selling the car in 223i guise which uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 201 hp and 236 lb-ft (320 Nm). Last but not least is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder diesel with 148 hp and 266 lb-ft (360 Nm).
