Jeep has unveiled the European version of the new Grand Cherokee, which will be exclusively available in plug-in hybrid form. This decision was taken because of the strict emission regulations in Europe, following the 4Xe-only Wrangler and joining the rest of Jeep’s electrified lineup.
Just like the US-spec model that was unveiled last month, the EU-spec Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is fitted with a plug-in hybrid powertrain producing a combined 375 hp (280 kW / 380 PS) and 637 Nm (470 lb-ft) of torque. It consists of a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, two electric motors, an eight-speed automatic gearbox, and a 17 kWh battery. The latter is good for a fully electric range of up to 51 km (32 miles) in the urban cycle. Predictably, this is higher than the advertised 40 km (25 miles) of combined cycle range in the US-spec model due to the different standards.

The Grand Cherokee 4xe is equipped with the Quadra-Drive II 4×4 system, Jeep’s Selec-Terrain (Auto, Snow, Sand/Mud, Rock, and Sport), and the Quadra-Lift air suspension although Jeep didn’t clarify if the aforementioned features will apply to all European trims. Speaking of which, the company has only announced the “Exclusive Launch Edition” that is packed with features.
Visually, the launch edition gets a set of 21-inch polished alloy wheels, full-LED lighting units, a diamond black roof, and platinum chrome accents combined with four available exterior shades (Diamond Black, Bright White, Velvet Red, Baltic Grey). Other than that, the EU-spec Grand Cherokee looks identical to the US model.
