Spy photographers have snapped the 2023  BMW 7-Series on multiple occasions, but new details are starting to emerge about the luxury sedan’s engine lineup.

According to Auto Motor und Sport, the model will be offered with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six churning out 271 hp (202 kW / 275 PS) and 370 hp (276 kW / 375 PS). Customers looking for more power will reportedly be able to upgrade to a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 with 538 hp (401 kW / 545 PS) and 626 hp (467 kW / 635 PS).

The publication also expects three plug-in hybrid variants with outputs of approximately 395 hp (294 kW / 400 PS), 493 hp (368 kW / 500 PS), and 641 hp (478 kW / 650 PS). However, they reportedly won’t be the only hybrids as all petrol and diesel variants are said to adopt a 48-volt mild hybrid system.

While the publication didn’t mention specifications for the diesel engine or the highly-anticipated i7, the company has previously said that the “i7’s electric drive, high-voltage battery, power electronics and charging technology all originate from the fifth generation of BMW eDrive technology, which already provides for sustainable driving pleasure in the BMW iX.”

Furthermore, BMW has already confirmed the V12 engine is dying with the current 7-Series. It will undoubtedly be missed as the M760i xDrive features a twin-turbo 6.6-liter V12 that produces 600 hp (447 kW / 608 PS) and 627 lb-ft (849 Nm) of torque. It enables the model to rocket from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.6 seconds, but it chugs premium gasoline thanks to a dismal fuel economy rating of 13 mpg city, 20 mpg highway, and 16 mpg combined.
