The Kia Sportage family continues to grow with the launch of this; the 2023 Sportage PHEV. It will be sold alongside U.S. models available with either a 2.5-liter four-cylinder or as a hybrid with a 1.6-liter turbocharged mill.

Driving the 2023 Kia Sportage PHEV is also a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, complete with 177 hp. Coupled to this engine is a 66.9 kW electric motor and a lithium polymer battery. The sole available transmission is a six-speed automatic. The Korean company hasn’t announced what the combined output is, but we expect it to be just over 260-hp or the same as the Hyundai Tucson PHEV.

Kia has also equipped the Sportage PHEV with a 7.2 kW high-efficiency on-board charger and notes that it will take approximately 2 hours to full charge when connected to a Level 2 charger.

Elsewhere, the Sportage PHEV features an Integrated Electronic Brake and offers regenerative braking. EPA numbers will be announced at a later date but it should be the most efficient Sportage variant on sale. Kia is also targeting an all-electric range of 32 miles.

Shoppers will be able to pick up the keys to a Sportage PHEV in either X-Line PHEV AWD or X-Line Prestige PHEV AWD guises. Like the X-Line variant available with the other powertrain options, the PHEV version has a more rugged exterior design that includes unique bumpers, gloss black across the side mirrors, roof rack, and window surrounds, and gloss black alloy wheels.
