Here’s A Close Look At The Genesis GV60 That’s Aimed Squarely At Tesla

We’ve known for some time that the Genesis GV60 is coming to America but we still haven’t had the chance to drive it yet. Still, we loved its corporate cousin, the Kia EV6, and now we get a video tour from the folks at Top Gear. Here’s everything that they found and all that we’re excited about trying out for ourselves.

First of all, this is maybe the most reservedly styled car of the Hyundai, Kia, Genesis trio. Sure, those double-slit headlights are dramatic but the whole car is certainly trying to do simple elegance more than the other two. Inside the car seems to be more of the same including a few totally unique touches that aren’t going to be found in either the Kia EV6 or the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

The most flashy bit of that is the trick gear selector that indicates when the GV60 is “on” by flipping over in the center console to reveal itself. Turn the car back off and it flips back over and hides the gear selector itself. That’s not all though as the GV60 also gets a pair of unique screens above that shifter. They’re slightly angled at the driver and have a unique user interface that Top Gear says is faster than the other two cars.

It also gets some fun technology including a drift mode and a boost button that provides more power for 10 seconds when it’s pressed. The B-pillar also hides a cool secret: inside is a facial recognition camera that can unlock the car when it recognizes a saved driver. Inside the GV60 is a fingerprint scanner that will then set up the car much in the same way that a memory function would have in the past.

Of course, not everything in the GV60 is totally bespoke, although that’s not a bad thing. Genesis’ EV borrows the drivetrain and battery from its cousins and that results in a maximum range of 280 miles (450 km), and it also uses the same 800-volt architecture so it can charge at up to 350kW which is about as fast as it gets right now. Genesis says that the GV60 goes on sale this spring and we can’t wait to have a go of our own.
