Nissan is gearing up for the launch of the 2023 Z and while the Japanese automaker has kept quiet about future variants of the sports car, there’s a good chance that it could spawn a convertible version.
Both the Nissan 350Z and 370Z were sold as Coupe and Convertible models and given that the new Z shares its platform with the 370Z, Nissan could likely chop off the hardtop without issues. These renderings from Instagrammer Sugar Design show us what a Z Convertible could look like and as you’ll probably agree, it looks excellent.
With the exception of some criticisms about the design of its front grille, most people have been quite receptive to the design of the new Z, thanks in part to its retro influences. In transforming it into a convertible, Sugar Design didn’t simply remove the hardtop but also had to design a new decklid for the car. It also features a pair of prominent roll hoops behind the driver and passenger seats.

If Nissan does launch a convertible version of the new Z, we suspect that it would use a folding soft-top just like the 370Z Convertible, rather than a retractable hardtop.
Earlier this month, Nissan opened reservations for the 2023 Z in Canada but revealed that it was not planning a similar reservation program for the United States. An on-sale date for the U.S. market has yet to be confirmed nor has pricing, although the car is expected to start at around $40,000.
Powering the Toyota Supra rival is a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 with an impressive 400 hp and 350 lb-ft (475 Nm) of torque, giving it a slight advantage over the Supra 3.0 with its 382 hp and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm).
