Say what you will about electric cars, but one thing is indisputable: it takes something really special to beat the best of them in a straight line. But what about drag races between EVs? Recently, we’ve seen the Lucid Air Dream Edition struggle to keep up with the Tesla Model S Plaid but how will it fare against the Porsche Taycan Turbo S? In this video these two super sedans race from both a dig and a roll and it’s pretty clear who’s on top.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, given their specs, the winner is the Lucid Air Dream Edition. Frankly, it’s not even that close regardless of how the race is run. From a dig, the Lucid runs away without any fight from the Porsche. When the two cars line up next to each other for a roll race, the Taycan does a better job at keeping up initially only to fade quickly thereafter. Taking a quick look at the stats on these monsters it becomes easy to understand why the difference is so large.

Both cars tip the scales at around 5,300 pounds (2,424 kg) so it’s going to come down to the drivetrains and that’s where the Lucid takes the lead literally and figuratively. Between its two motors, it makes 1,111 hp (828 kW) while the Porsche only claims 750 hp. Both cars use all-wheel-drive but to get the power down the Taycan sends that power through a two-speed transmission first.
We think it’s obvious how things will go down but we’re excited to see the next race that’s previewed at the end of the video below. They’re going to line up these two next to a Tesla Model S and have the definitive EV super sedan drag race.
