Mercedes-Benz has reportedly stopped accepting orders for the E-Class sedan in Germany.
It is understood that a combination of factors have forced the hand of Mercedes-Benz. For example, there is thought to be growing demand for the E-Class in overseas markets, meaning the company’s inventory has been exhausted. In addition, a supply bottleneck of semiconductors is also said to have impacted production.
Local publication Automobilwoche understands that Mercedes-Benz stopped taking German orders for the E-Class on February 12. Interestingly, orders for the E-Class Estate are still being accepted.

Mercedes-Benz has been building the fifth-generation E-Class since the 2017 model year before launching facelifted variants for 2021. While the car still feels very fresh, Mercedes-Benz is in the midst of developing the sixth-generation E-Class and is said to be working on a new model dubbed the CLE that will replace the E-Class Coupe and Convertible models.
This is not the first time we have heard reports about Mercedes-Benz halting orders of a particular model. In early February, reports emerged that the automaker had temporarily stopped taking new orders for the G-Class throughout Europe. German sources state the G-Class orders were paused on January 17, 2022, leading to suggestions that some deliveries may not be made until the fourth quarter of 2024. A friend of CarScoops working at Mercedes-Benz stated that some deliveries have been pushed back until the first quarter of 2025.
However, much like the E-Class, Mercedes has only stopped taking G-Class orders in Europe and continues to accept new orders throughout the United States. No official reason has been given for why orders have been paused but a source told us that Mercedes was altering the packages available with the G-Class and that order books would reopen somewhere between March and May.
