Steven Spielberg is set to direct a new movie based on Frank Bullitt, Steve McQueen’s famous character from Bullitt.
The film will be brought to life by Warners Bros and Spielberg will produce it alongside Kristie Macosko Krieger. The film’s script will be penned by Josh Singer and sources speaking with Deadline insist that this won’t be a remark of McQueen’s 1968 film and instead centered on a new idea about the character. Steve McQueen’s son, Chad, and his granddaughter Molly McQueen, will executive produce the film.

It is claimed that Spielberg has been thinking about the project for quite some time but first had to negotiate with the McQueen family for the rights to the character.
Bullitt was one of McQueen’s most iconic movies. McQueen starred as San Francisco Police Department detective Lieutenant Frank Bullitt. The film is particularly famous for featuring an extended chase through the streets of San Francisco, with Bullitt driving the infamous limited-run Mustang that was named after the film.
It is unclear when Spielberg’s film could hit theaters but as the script has yet to be written, we obviously won’t see it for quite some time.
When the new movie is released, will it again feature a unique version of the Ford Mustang? For car enthusiasts, having a Mustang in the film would be a must and the most obvious option would be the sixth-generation Mustang Bullitt that was produced for the 2019 and 2020 model years. Or, could the new movie prompt Ford to offer a Bullitt variant of the forthcoming seventh-generation Mustang?
