The Lamborghini Huracan and Aventador have been siblings since way back in 2014 and since then, the duo have been upgraded extensively with the launch of more powerful and track-focused variants. However, is the ultimate version of the Aventador actually any quicker than the most potent derivative of the Huracan?
To find out, CarWow recently tested an Aventador SVJ against the new kid on the block, the Huracan STO. Both of these cars follow the same philosophy but achieve their results in very different ways.
The Aventador SVJ is powered by a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 churning out 759 hp and 509 lb-ft (690 Nm) of torque. This power is sent through all-four wheels via an independent shifting-rod transmission which, while effective, is no modern dual-clutch ‘box. By comparison, the Huracan STO uses a 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 rated at 631 hp and 417 lb-ft (565 Nm). It is at the disadvantage of being rear-wheel drive but, on the other hand, it has a dual-clutch seven-speed transmission.

While the Huracan STO has less power than its sibling, it does weigh significantly less, tipping the scales at 2,962 lbs (1,339 kg) compared to the 3,362 lbs (1,525 kg) of the Aventador SVJ.
In the first of the drag races held, the Huracan STO easily gets the best launch and rockets into a lead, ultimately winning without breaking a sweat. The second test was much closer with the duo getting off the line at almost exactly the same speed. They remained neck and neck for most of the race but the Huracan just clawed out a victory.
The third and final race went in a different direction as it was the Aventador SVJ that got the jump off the line, finishing the quarter-mile in 10.9 seconds compared to the 11.1 seconds of the Huracan STO.
