The GMC Typhoon is one of the most unique performance cars from the 1990s and a particularly low-mileage example is currently up for auction.
GMC only built the Typhoon between 1991 and 1993 and just 2,200 examples were produced in the SUV’s final model year. This 1993 model is #2,143 and is available in Florida with a window sticker, manufacturer’s literature, a clean Carfax report, a clean Pennsylvania title, and all of the original sales paperwork. It is attracting a lot of attention and bidding had exceeded $60,000 at the time of writing.
Adorning the Typhoon’s exterior is a simple shade of black that has been well-maintained throughout the years and is contrasted by gold badges and stickers. The SUV also rocks turbine-style 16-inch aluminum wheels with GMC-branded center caps and wrapped in 245/50 Firestone Firehawk SVX tires. Given how few miles the car has traveled, it comes as no surprise that the exterior looks flawless.

It is a similar story in the cabin. Found inside are leather-wrapped seats with matching carpeting and a gray dashboard. Among the key features are cruise control, air conditioning, a Delco CD stereo with an equalizer, and a four-spoke steering wheel, the Bring a Trailer listing reveals.
Powering the GMC Typhoon is a turbocharged 4.3-liter V6 that was rated at 285 hp and 350 lb-ft (474 Nm) of torque from the factory. This power is sent to all four wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission and in its day, the SUV could hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in around 5.3 seconds and sprint down the quarter-mile in 14.1 seconds.
The window sticker reveals that this Typhoon had a total price of $29,929 when it was new. When accounting for inflation, that is the equivalent of $58,231 today. Given how little the car has been driven, it’s likely that whoever ends up buying it will also keep it locked away and opt to not rack up the miles – which, in our book, would be a shame, but hey, we’re not the ones bidding…
