Toyota is gearing up to launch the 2023 bZ4X in the United States this spring and the company has announced a new charging partnership with EVgo.

Thanks to the tie-up, customers who purchase or lease a bZ4X will get one year of unlimited complimentary charging at all of EVgo’s public charging stations nationwide. They’ll have plenty to choose from as the company has more than 800 DC fast charging locations as well as thousands of Level 2 charging stations. These are located in over 68 metropolitan areas across 35 states.

While there are still a number of gaps in their network, the company noted more than 130 million people in the United States live within a 10 mile (16 km) drive of an EVgo fast charger. EVgo went on to say their network will grow in the future as there are “plans to deploy approximately 16,000 fast charging stalls by 2027.”

Putting that aside, bZ4X owners will be able to use their smartphone to download the Toyota App and signup for the EVgo offer. The app can also be used to locate EVgo stations and initiate complimentary charging.

Toyota Motor North America’s Vice President of EV Charging Solutions, Christopher Yang, said “We want our bZ4X customers to enjoy a high-quality ownership experience that is as seamless and worry-free as possible. Collaborating with EVgo, the nation’s largest public fast charging network, will help provide bZ4X owners with access to a fast, reliable charge where and when they need it.”

The entry-level bZ4X features a 71.4 kWh lithium-ion battery, which powers a front-mounted electric motor that develops 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS). Customers can also upgrade to a dual-motor all-wheel drive variant that features a larger 72.8 kWh battery as well as a combined output of 215 hp (160 kW / 218 PS).

Toyota hasn’t released full specifications, but has previously said the front-wheel drive variant is projected to have a range of up to 250 miles (402 km). The all-wheel drive model will likely have a range in excess of 220 miles (354 km), judging by the numbers for the similar Subaru Solterra.
