Ignore its controversial design and the new BMW M4 Competition is a great sports car that has now been made all the more impressive thanks to Akrapovic.
The Slovenian exhaust manufacturer has long produced some of the finest exhaust systems on the market and has just launched its system for the latest-generation M4. Similar exhaust options are also available for the four-door M3.

Akrapovic’s exhaust is made from lightweight titanium and tips the scales at 35 percent less than the standard exhaust. The exhaust also features hand-crafted carbon-fiber tailpipes and incorporates a control kit with adjustable valves to adjust the sound.
The video below showcases the exhaust and it certainly adds some extra aggression to the sports car, even though the clip is a little overly-edited for our tastes.
In addition to improving the soundtrack of the M4 Competition, Akrapovic’s kit claims to add an extra 10.9 hp at 6,000 rpm and 10.25 lb-ft (13.9 Nm) of torque at 5,000 rpm. The ECU doesn’t need to be remapped to make the most of the exhaust. Akrapovic also offers a titanium link pipe for the M4 that will be sold exclusively in the United States. It results in impressive gains of 23.7 hp and 18.7 lb-ft (25.4 Nm) of torque. Aftermarket downpipes with and without catalytic converters are also available.
As a reminder, the BMW M4 Competition features a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder producing 503 hp and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque. BMW is preparing to release a new variant dubbed the M4 CSL that will have even more power with indications pointing towards the 540 hp mark.
