Alpina has teased its forthcoming B4 Gran Coupe and while we don’t know yet when it will debut, it will certainly add some excitement to the 4-Series range.
The new Alpina B4 is unique because unlike its predecessor, it will not be based on the 4-Series Coupe and is instead built around the 4-Series Gran Coupe. It remains unclear why the German car manufacturer went down this route but it does mean the car won’t be viewed as a rival to the BMW M4 Coupe.
This teaser doesn’t show much. In fact, all it shows is a taillight of a car finished in Alpina’s recognizable shade of dark blue, an Alpina badge and a subtle lip spoiler.

Our spy photographers most recently snapped the B4 Gran Coupe undergoing testing in October 2021. That prototype was also equipped with a tweaked rear bumper and new quad tailpipes and was rocking black wheels and blue brake calipers. Alpina will also equip the B4 Gran Coupe with a distinctive front lip in order to further differentiate it from the car on which it is based.
Powertrain details haven’t been confirmed but all signs point towards the B4 Gran Coupe being based on the M440i xDrive but instead of the latter’s B58, it will use the the S58 straight-six powering the M3 and M4, just like the Alpina B3. The 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six produces 456 hp and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque in the latest B3, allowing it to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in less than four seconds and a top speed approaching 190 mph (305 km/h).
