Chevrolet revealed today that the upcoming Blazer EV will be the brand’s first model to sport the performance “SS” badge.
One of a pair of all-electric crossovers coming to its lineup in the near future, Chevrolet says the Blazer SS will make its debut later this year and customers will be able to buy it starting in the spring of 2023.
The automaker first announced the electric Blazer along with an all-electric Equinox in January at CES 2022. Joining the Bolt, the Bolt EUV, and the Silverado EV in Chevy’s electric lineup, the two upcoming crossovers will be based on GM’s Ultium platform.

The automaker revealed little about the Blazer at CES, though, preferring instead to share details about the Equinox. Set to go on sale with an MSRP of around $30,000, the compact Equinox SUV will be a bargain by EV standards. Despite that, big screens and fancy technology will still be present, suggesting that Chevrolet is taking its transition to electric vehicles seriously.
It remains unclear what kind of performance the Blazer SS will get at this point, but the Ultium platform is nothing if not capable of delivering impressive numbers. We know that the platform is capable of delivering 400 miles (644 km) of range thanks to the Silverado EV and more than 1,000 hp (746 kW/1,014 PS) thanks to the Hummer EV, though that vehicle’s 2,923 lbs (1,326 kg) battery pack is unlikely to fit under a Blazer, so Chevrolet may pull back somewhat from those colossal figures.
Today’s revelation is at least reassuring in that it signals that Chevrolet is thinking about performance even as it moves to electric propulsion.
