Just a couple of days after the VW ID. Buzz was officially unveiled, a prototype has just been spotted with absolutely no camouflage during some cold-weather testing.

This all-while ID. Buzz prototype was snapped in the snowy conditions of Northern Europe and provides us with our first chance to see what it looks like out in the open, rather than through some heavily-edited press photos.

The first thing that may catch your eye is just how ‘plain’ this prototype looks. That’s no doubt down to the fact that it is painted in a simple shade of white, dubbed Candy White, and does not have a two-tone paint scheme like the examples officially unveiled by Volkswagen. It’s worth noting that seven single-color options are available for the ID. Buzz, in addition to four two-tone options, so it seems likely that most of VW’s electric vans will leave the factory with a single-shade and not a two-tone paint scheme.

While the paint may not be the most interesting aspect of this prototype, it’s hard not to be taken aback by the LED headlights and daytime running lights that give the van a very modern look. There is also a futuristic front grille that serves to prove that EVs can have human-like faces.

You may also notice the ID. Buzz in question has mismatched wheels. Those at the front appear to be production-spec units while the black wheels at the rear don’t appear to be part of the range.

Volkswagen has confirmed that European models will feature an 82 kWh battery pack as standard that drives a 201 hp electric motor also punching out 229 lb-ft (310 Nm) of torque, all of which is sent to the rear wheels. Other battery options will be made available in the coming year, as well as more powerful dual-motor models.
