Elon Musk has long held that his Tesla employees do better without a union than with one. While that debate will rage on for the foreseeable future, one thing is clear, the UAW took another hit Monday as an extensive investigation found more misuse of union funds.

More than $2.2 million in funds was embezzled by a former financial secretary-treasurer of the UAW who has now become the 17th individual to be convicted as part of the overarching investigation.

Timothy Edmunds of South Lyon, Michigan pleaded guilty to embezzlement and money laundering on Monday. He faces a sentencing guideline range of 46 to 57 months in prison or just shy of five years. He also owes the UAW $1.9 million after repaying approximately $300,000 before he was caught.

That news quickly made its way to Elon Musk on Twitter who decided to take full advantage of the chance to roast the UAW as a whole. ‘UAW slogan – “Fighting for the right to embezzle money from auto workers!”’ the first tweet read. Musk wasn’t done there though because five minutes later he fired off another more pointed tweet.

” The UAW stole millions from workers, whereas Tesla has made many workers millionaires (via stock grants). Subtle, but important difference” he said. Of course, some in the Twitter crowd pointed out that he didn’t offer any hard data to back up the claim. Depending on a number of factors, employees paid with stock grants could indeed have become millionaires.

It should also be noted that there’s nothing to guarantee that a Tesla employee couldn’t commit similar crimes. Either way, it seems like Musk is nowhere near to letting go of the bad blood between himself and the UAW. Despite that, he publicly invited the UAW to hold a union vote at Tesla after President Biden failed to mention the brand during his State of the Union address.

Where do you stand on this feud? Is Musk right for jumping on this opportunity to point out flaws in the UAW or do you feel like this is an isolated incident that could happen anywhere? Let us know in the comments below.
