Formula 1 will race in Las Vegas during the 2023 season as the sport and owner Liberty Media add a third race in the U.S.

The 2023 race will take place on a Saturday night in November on a dedicated street circuit on the world-famous Las Vegas Strip. The circuit will be 3.8 miles (6.12 km) long and consist of three main straights and 14 corners. The cars are expected to hit over 212 mph (342 km/h) on the longest of the straights and the race will consist of 50 laps.

The race joins the annual event at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas and the new street circuit in Miami. It comes on the back of the increased popularity for the F1 in the United States.

“This is an incredible moment for Formula 1 that demonstrates the huge appeal and growth of our sport with a third race in the U.S.,” president and chief executive of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicali said in a statement. “Las Vegas is a destination known around the world for its excitement, hospitality, thrills, and of course, the famous Strip. There is no better place for Formula 1 to race than in the global entertainment capital of the world and we cannot wait to be here next year. I want to thank everyone who helped deliver this event, especially Governor Sisolak, the Clark County Commission, Steve Hill at the LVCVA, and our local partners.”

As the full calendar for the 2023 season hasn’t been announced, it isn’t known if the Las Vegas race will replace an existing event on the calendar or grow the calendar even further.

“Iconic Las Vegas and Formula 1, the pinnacle of motorsport, is the perfect marriage of speed and glamour,” added Liberty Media president and chief executive Greg Maffei. “Our confidence in this unique opportunity is evident in our decision to assume the promoter role for the Las Vegas Grand Prix in partnership with Live Nation. We could not be more excited to work with our local partners to create a marquee event. The potential of Formula 1 has been well demonstrated over the last several seasons and the Las Vegas GP will only take it to the next level.”
