Although it’s hard to believe, schematics for the Ferrari 250 lineage were never created at the factory. But now, the U.K.’s GTO Engineering has created its very own set of schematic drawings to make restorations easier.
“I remember, before we embarked upon this project, adapting the schematics for a Ferrari 330 with a pencil and trying to match-up the part numbers,” said Mark Lyon, founder of GTO Engineering. “It was a real mess, and only made sense to me. That was when there were parts available on the shelf in the late Eighties, but components soon became unavailable not long after that, so the parts side was void.”
Ever since those days, he says, he’s wanted to create his own technical drawings from scratch. The model series ran from 1959 to 1964 and includes such famed cars as the 250 GTO, the 250 LM, the 250 GTE, the 250 SWB, and the 250 GT Lussos, all of which GTO Engineering services. Without technical drawings to refer to, though, finding the right parts is harder than it has to be.

So Lyon utilized GTO Engineering‘s CAD capabilities to create his own schematics. Each drawing focuses on a certain area of the car, with everything from the brakes to the suspension to the engine and gearbox represented, and all correspond to parts that the U.K. company manufactures or sources for its customers.
“Seeing the complete schematics for the 250 series of Ferraris finished is an emotional feeling,” said Lyon. “I’m proud to present the technical drawings on our website and through a printed catalog. There’s also a key sense of achievement in that every component within the schematics, matches a valid part number that we can sell to our customers.”
In all, there are 33 drawings that take up 80 pages in the printed book, which costs £99.95 ($132.52 USD at current exchange rates) and digital copies are available at GTOpartshop.com.
Not only does GTO Engineering provide services for classic Ferraris, but it is also behind the Squalo, a clean-sheet new model that is inspired by classic Ferraris. It will feature a bespoke, quad-cam, naturally aspirated V12 that makes 460 hp (343 kW / 466 PS) and is contained in a vehicle that weighs less than 1,000 kg (2,250 lbs).
