Impressive Custom Volvo 945 Pickup Is Kinda Like A Swedish El Camino

Volvo never offered a pickup truck version of its 900-series from the factory, which has led at least one fan of the Swedish brick to custom-build their own.

This custom Volvo 945 Pickup is available on Swedish car classified site Blocket for 10,700 Euros (about $11,800 USD) and features some impressive workmanship.

Obviously, the most unique feature of this Volvo is the conversion from a wagon into a pickup truck. To do this, the roof is chopped, shortened, and re-welded just behind the driver’s seat. Since the wagon was a four-door, the two rear doors are gutted and used as filler panels between the front doors and the rear quarter panel.

The rear tailgate is still functional and features a wing from a Volvo 965. The bed is clad with aluminum diamond plate for style and strength, and taillights from a V90 integrate nicely into the modified rear. Finally, the 945 is finished in a shade of BMW metallic brown.

To achieve the low ride height, the vehicle is riding on airbag suspension which can be raised or lowered. The stance has been widened front and rear with plastic fenders to contain the 17×10″ JR6 wheels.

Under the hood is a 2.4-litre six-cylinder turbodiesel engine, which the seller states was “renovated about 4 months ago.” The D24 TIC engine was built by the Volkswagen Group and made just 121 bhp and 173 lb-ft when new. A T3/T4 turbocharger was installed by the seller, so it should make slightly more than it did stock. Due to the diesel engine, the seller listed the vehicle in the tractor section as a joke.

Additional changes include a swap to a US-region front fascia, a wooden steering wheel, and an extra battery to run the airbags and sound system.

The seller notes that he would trade his creation for a sensible vehicle.
