Los Angeles police are searching for the driver of a Tesla Model S who jumped the car on a residential street in the city. The stunt has since gone viral and led to the vehicle being totaled.

The 2018 Tesla Model S was rented, according to the Los Angeles Police Department, and following the jump at the intersection of Baxter and Alvarado streets, it smashed into two vehicles. After the stunt, the driver abandoned the car and fled.

“There is currently no description of driver, and the Tesla was abandoned at the scene,” said an LAPD spokesperson, according to Newsweek. “A misdemeanor hit-and-run was completed, and detectives will be following up with the renter.”

The department is also offering a $1,000 reward to anyone able to provide information that leads to the driver being identified. Those with tips are encouraged to contact Det. Juan Campos at (213) 833-3713 or at 31480@lapd.online or anonymously at lacrimestoppers.org.

Footage of the stunt was posted by YouTuber Alex Choi and took place following a Tesla meetup that allegedly took place without incident up until that point.

“So the drive went over without any incident and this random dude wanted to show me the place David Dobrik jumped his Tesla,” Choi said in the video. Dobrik, another YouTuber, filmed his Tesla Model X jumping at the same intersection, albeit at a slower speed. Getting less air, the damage that followed much lower.

Fortunately, although the damage following the Model S jump was fairly sizeable, no one was hurt in the incident. As Detective Juan Campos of the LAPD noted, though, “It could’ve gotten somebody killed.”
