A man in New York has been arrested after inadvertently running over a man while doing donuts on a SoHo street.

The driver in question, 22-year-old Tyler Green from New Jersey, was participating in a car ‘meet’ on the SoHo street at roughly midnight on Saturday, March 19. Footage taken from spectators shows Green doing donuts in his red Infiniti mere feet away from those in attendance.

At one stage, 23-year-old Christopher Brito can be seen running into the center of the road to try and capture footage of Green drifting. However, he appeared to trip over and fell to the ground directly in front of Green and was subsequently run over.

CBS News reports that immediately after Brito was hit, spectators rushed to his aid. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital with serious injuries while the 22-year-old driver reportedly left the scene.

Green later turned himself in and has been hit with a number of charges, including assault, reckless driving, and leaving the scene of an accident.

Speaking with CBS News, Brito’s uncle Charles said that the 23-year-old was alert when taken to hospital and had undergone surgery after sustaining a “fractured skull and arms.”

“I just hope these kids would stop playing with their life like that because it looks all fun and games at the beginning with all these cars, drag racing, whatever it is they’re doing out there, but they gotta think about their life. I just almost lost my nephew, so you have to think about your choices,” Charles said.

The incident occurred at Vandam and Greenwich streets in SoHo and residents who live near the scene say that this was the second time they had been woken up by cars doing donuts in the middle of the night in the past month.
