Peugeot has just launched in Pakistan with partner Lucky Motor Corporation and established eight dealerships in six cities across the country.
The first Peugeot model to launch in Pakistan is the 2008. It was introduced in its current second-generation in 2019 and an all-electric version may be made available in the country in the future. Importantly, the combustion engine model will be built locally and Peugeot is also considering building the e-2008 in Pakistan. The 3008 and 5008 will also be offered down the road.
The eight dealerships established will handle sales, after sales, and services in the cities of Islamabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, and Gujranwala. Production will be handled by a site in Karachi.
Driven: Peugeot e-2008 Is A Surprisingly Fun To Drive Little Electric SUV
“We are delighted with this partnership,” Peugeot chief executive Linda Jackson said. “This will be the first time a European car is assembled in Pakistan and we are excited to work with Lucky Motors to support employment, localization and the local automotive industry in the country. Internationalization is a key focus for PEUGEOT, with the B and C segment SUV growth in Pakistan, representing a great opportunity for us. This is also bolstered by the evolution of the legislation of the country towards electrification which is fully in line with our own strategy.”
The French car manufacturer has revealed that it will sell the 2008 in Pakistan with the 1.2-liter petrol three-cylinder engine producing 131 hp but not the 1.5-liter turbocharged diesel four-cylinder also offered in some markets. If the decision is made to sell the e-2008 locally, it will likely receive the same 50 kWh battery pack as the model sold in overseas markets, complete with a 134 hp electric motor.
“Lucky Motors is set to change the automotive landscape of Pakistan by introducing Peugeot, the first locally made European brand in the country,” added Lucky Motors Company chief operating officer Asif Rizvi. “We are very excited to partner with Peugeot and look forward to being associated with Stellantis, a company that strongly believes in futuristic mobility solutions.”
