Over the vast history of the automobile, there are quite a number of cars that have garnered positive attention that for many of us feels unwarranted. That leads us to our question of the day: What’s the most overrated car ever?

That word “ever” is important here so don’t just dive in and say that it has to be the Tesla Model S for reasons x,y, and z. Sure, there are plenty of reasons to criticize Tesla and its business model but it’s hard to argue that the Model S at least wasn’t groundbreaking in that it led the electric vehicle charge (pun unintended).

No, we’re thinking of cars that have either received far too much positive attention when compared to others objectively or those that are flashy for other reasons. For example, is the DeLorean DMC-12 overrated? It’s famous for a whole host of reasons but would it have half of the gravity that it does if not for being in Back to the Future?

Then there are the cars that you may not personally like. Hummer seems to draw the ire of many. The old ones were dog slow and honestly pretty brutal to drive. The new one is considerably quicker but weighs just slightly less than the moon which makes it less environmentally friendly than it might seem.

Still, some classics might not be what everyone seems to think they were. I, for one, can’t stand all the Volkswagen GTI praise. Sure, it’s a quick and well-rounded hatchback but so many brands do it better and all these years later VW is still trying to figure out how to make one drive without understeer. And don’t tell me that it’s because it was first; Renault, Mini, and Simca did it before VW.

So you tell us. What’s the most overrated car in history in your opinion?
