Hyundai is readying a facelift for the HB20 hatchback that it sells exclusively in South America.
For those that don’t know, the HB20 was introduced back in 2012 and built in first-generation guise through until 2019. The updated second-generation model was then launched in the third quarter of 2019 with a striking new design and in the not too distant future, will be refreshed with some new styling.

Our spy photographers were able to snap a heavy-disguised prototype undergoing winter testing in Europe. The prototype is bathed in body cladding and camouflage but a number of key changes are expected to be made to this hatch.
For example, Hyundai is expected to equip the new HB20 with a wider front grille that will undoubtedly help to increase its road presence. In addition, the car manufacturer will fit the facelifted model with new headlights, not dissimilar to those of the current i20.
While not really visible on this prototype, alterations will continue at the rear and should include LED taillights and a different bumper.
It is possible that the interior of the updated Hyundai HB20 will also be influenced by the i20. If that’s the case then there could be a digital instrument cluster, a large infotainment screen, and an altogether comfortable and premium interior for what is a relatively cheap and affordable vehicle.
Our sources suggest that at least two engine options are expected, both using Hyundai’s 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine with one being naturally-aspirated and the other supplemented by a turbocharger. Horsepower should range from 80 hp to 120 hp. These engines use flex-fuel technology. The current HB20 is available with the same two 1.0-liter engines but also a 1.6-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder. It is unclear if this engine will be retained for the updated model.
