As the situation in Ukraine continues to develop, the Stellantis group has just committed to donating €1 million ($1.1 million USD) to assist with humanitarian efforts regarding refugees and civilians. It’s also making commitments to all affected employees in the region. The move is just the latest in a slew of developments regarding the auto industry and the developing crisis.
Stellantis announced from Amsterdam that through its Foundation, it would “commit €1 million in humanitarian aid to support the Ukrainian refugees and civilians displaced by the current crisis.”
They also clarified how that aid would be accessed by those displaced, saying “With the support of Stellantis’ head of operations in Ukraine, Stellantis will rely on a local NGO to support Ukrainians in using this fund.”

The brand’s CEO Carlos Tavares explained the move saying “Stellantis condemns violence and aggression and, in this time of unprecedented pain, our priority is the health and safety of our Ukrainian employees and families. An aggression that shook a world order, already unsettled by uncertainty, has been launched. The Stellantis community, made of 170 nationalities, looks with dismay as civilians flee the country. Even if the scale of casualties is not yet apparent, the human toll will be unbearable.” he continued.
71 Employees in Ukraine
It also highlighted that 71 of its employees are based in Ukraine and had been confirmed to be safe for the moment. The brand says that it’s created a 24/7 dedicated support team that will monitor the health and safety of those employees.
Earlier this week, Ford, Hyundai, and General Motors all announced that they would be suspending operations in Russia. Volvo also said that it would suspend car shipments headed to Russia while Volkswagen committed to pausing deliveries of units to dealers there. Ford went a step further and donated $100,000 to the Global Giving Ukraine Relief Fund as well.
It seems that Stellantis has yet to commit to suspending its business in Russia which represents some $22.4 million (€20 million). On Twitter, Stellantis announced that it would abide by any sanctions imposed and highlighted its diverse workforce. It has set up a separate task force to monitor sanctions to stay in compliance.
