A gorgeous 1988 Porsche 959 Komfort has just hit the market but with an asking price of 995,000 Swiss Franc ($1.068 million), it’s certainly not cheap.
Porsche famously built the 959 to compete in the Group B rally series but due to the cancellation of the series, the car didn’t compete. However, Porsche didn’t simply abandon the 959 project and ultimately offered it in a street-legal guise.
This particular 959 that is available through RM Sotheby’s is one of just 292 examples of the Komfort-spec model and is finished in Porsche’s iconic shade of Guards Red. The wheels were originally painted white but have since been resprayed in silver. The car spent most of its formative years in Germany and in 2008, underwent important mechanical recommissioning work.

Soon after, the car lived in New Zealand before being sold at an auction and imported into Switzerland in 2017. It has benefited from comprehensive servicing work since living in Switzerland, including workshop invoices from Porsche specialist Meca Components that exceed $172,000. Evidently, the previous owners have spared no expense in ensuring the car has remained in good running order.
Found in the cabin of the 959 Komfort are seats clad in various different shades of grey leather. The car also has grey carpets and floor mats and contrasting leather components across the transmission tunnel, dashboard, and most other interior components.
Interestingly, this 959 has been driven 167,190 km (103,887 miles) since leaving the factory, which is a lot for a vehicle that’s this valuable and no doubt makes it one of the highest-mileage Porsche 959s out there. This explains why it has a cheaper asking price than a similar red 959 Komfort that sold for $1.6 million in January and a low-mileage one that fetched a remarkable 1,973,750 Swiss Franc ($2.11 million) when it was sold in September last year with just 961 km (597 miles) on the odometer.
