The Pontiac Solstice holds a special place in the hearts of many enthusiasts and that’s particularly true of the range-topping GXP variant.
Introduced at the 2006 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Solstice GXP featured a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine pumping out 260 hp (194 kW / 264 PS) and 260 lb-ft (352 Nm) of torque. It was paired to a standard five-speed manual and this allowed the rear-wheel drive roadster to run from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in just 5.5 seconds.
That was a winning combination, but it doesn’t hold a candle to this V8-powered Solstice GT that was created by Michael Jonas of the Stainless Steel Brake Corporation and Chuck Mallett of Mallett Performance Cars. According to Mecum, Jonas was disappointed the Solstice was four-cylinder only and learned that Mallett was developing an LS2-swapped model. As fate would have it, Mallett was looking for brakes for their Solstice program and a partnership was born.

The resulting model is bound to turn heads thanks to its white exterior with blue racing stripes. The stripes weren’t the only addition as the Solstice GT has also been equipped with a ram air hood, a rear wing, and a center-mounted Corsa exhaust system. They’re joined by polished wheels that are backed up by an SSBC braking system that features three-piston calipers and 14-inch (356 mm) discs.
The updates continue in the cabin as there’s tan leather seats with blue suede inserts. The model has also been equipped with SSBC-branded floor mats, a polished handbrake grip, and a Hurst shift knob.
Of course, the biggest change occurs under the hood as the four-cylinder engine has been replaced by a 6.0-liter V8 developing 400 hp (298 kW / 406 PS). It’s backed up by a five-speed manual transmission which features a LuK Pro Gold clutch and a custom bellhousing.
The modifications don’t end there as the Solstice GT has custom engine mounts as well as manifolds and catalytic converters sourced from a Corvette C6. Other highlights include a custom aluminum radiator and an upgraded suspension with Penske coilovers as well as adjustable shocks.
The car will be auctioned off by Mecum later this month, but there’s no auction estimate.
