A 24-year-old man has been hit with multiple charges in St St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana after hitting a police officer with his white Dodge Challenger Hellcat.

Kody McElveen was being pursued by police at the time when a deputy with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office deployed spike strips on Highway 36 near Covington. Video of the incident shows McElveen veering towards the officer who was waiting on the side of the road before hitting him with the passenger side of the muscle car, flinging the officer to the ground.

4WWL reports that the 24-year-old drove down I-12 and exited Louisiana Highway 1077. The Challenger was soon found in a Rouse’s parking lot and witnesses claimed that McElveen was in the store. He attempted to flee the scene on foot but was arrested by deputies. He was carrying a gun at the time.

The driver was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center for Attempted Murder of a Police Officer, Aggravated Assault with a Motor Vehicle Upon a Peace Officer, Illegal Possession of a Firearm, Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Reckless Operation, Possession of Schedule I (marijuana) and six counts of failure to stop or yield.

It is understood that McElveen initially fled authorities when a deputy patrolling part of Highway 36 noticed the Challenger had no license plates. Rather than stopping, the 24-year-old decided to make a run for it.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident and video of it has already started to circulate across social media. While it seems the officer who was hit took a solid knock to their legs and torso, he can be seen quickly getting back up to his feet and using his radio. According to the police report, he was treated for minor injuries.
