There’s a possibility that the all-electric VW ID. Buzz could be built in North America, in addition to Germany.
When the car manufacturer recently unveiled the ID. Buzz, it said it would be built exclusively in Hanover, Germany. Volkswagen of America chief executive Scott Keogh added that the company had no intention of producing the electric minivan in North America but now, his tune has started to change.
VW recently presented the ID. Buzz at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas and the EV was met with huge levels of demand.

“Demand is through the roof — it’s super high — so I think we’re going to have to give a fair amount of strategic thoughts on this front,” Keogh told Auto News after the festival. “Obviously, there’s going to be a big boost at launch; I think that’s no surprise. In my mind, I think it’s sustainable when you see the amount of demand.”
Keogh added that he was particularly surprised when he received an email from a small dealership in the U.S. that said it had expected to sell one or two ID. Buzz models when reservations opened before its 2024 U.S. launch. However, the dealership has already taken 75 reservations for the van, prompting Keogh to suggest that the company “might need to react accordingly” by localizing production in North America.
“Cars like this do the most important thing. Business is good, making money is good, but get the brand liked and loved again, that’s where we want to get to, and that’s what this is doing,” he added. “Driving around and just getting literally people jumping in front of the vehicle; that’s awesome.”
Volkswagen recently revealed that it hopes to sell 120,000 examples of the ID. Buzz annually and believes that it could become its best-selling EV.
