Each year around early February we get a slew of brand-new and sometimes impressive automobile commercials. That got us wondering what the best automotive advertisement ever was and we’re not just talking about TV spots. Today, our question of the day encompasses all automotive adverts ever including those in print.
Every year brands across the globe spend billions of dollars on making advertisements that the public will remember and like. Still, it seems that the vast majority can maintain anything but a passing foothold on our grey matter. A few though manage to dig in and stay a while and it’s those that we’re most interested in.

Perhaps you feel like ads were far more striking in the past. For example, it’s hard to dismiss an advertisement as bold as the one in our lead image. Volvo knew that comparing a wagon to a Lamborghini would be eye-catching but they probably didn’t realize that people would be talking about it decades later.
At the same time, newer commercials like the one Fiat ran for the 2012 “big game” have also drawn attention. In it, the Italian brand known for its small cars draws a clear and memorable line from passion and lust to its shout-y little 500 Abarth model. Perhaps though that line between print and video is more important.
Do you feel like an ad that’s in print media is more or less powerful? No doubt, some printed ads in recent memory have communicated their point well though, in today’s world, it’s hard to imagine that they’d have as wide a reach as most film platforms. That shouldn’t take away from ads like “Nobody’s Perfect” ad from Porsche.
At the same time, ads like Jaguar’s “Villains” spot, Dodge’s “Predators” commercial, or BMW‘s M5 film that pretended the car could keep up with a supersonic land-speed record car couldn’t be as impactful in print form. So here’s where you tell us.
What’s your favorite car ad ever? Which one is the best? It’s certainly possible that those two advertisements aren’t the same in your mind. I don’t personally like VW’s “Unpimp your ride” ads from a decade or more ago but I appreciate where they were coming from.
