Michigan To Dedicate Part Of I-94 Between Detroit And Ann Arbor To Autonomous Vehicles

Michigan will dedicate a section of highway to the use of autonomous vehicles. One lane along a 25-mile (40 km) stretch of the I-94 between Detroit and Ann Arbor will be dedicated to self-driving cars, with the installation of necessary infrastructure to ease the progress of the new technology. The roadway is being developed by the startup, Cavnue, which will work with the Michigan Department of Transportation on traffic studies, environmental analysis, road design, operational planning, and public outreach.


2023 Toyota GR Supra Debuts With New Six-Speed Manual, Limited A91-MT Edition

No doubt egged on by the Nissan Z, Toyota finally bit the bullet and developed a manual transmission for the GR Supra. The 2023 GR Supra features a new six-speed manual that has been designed specifically for the car’s turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder. Toyota’s engineers modified an existing transmission housing, ditched elements that were deemed unnecessary, and added a large-diameter clutch with a reinforced diaphragm spring. It’s coupled with a shortened final drive ratio, while the transmission features software, which optimizes engine torque at the moment of clutch engagement and release when upshifting. There will be a limited-edition A91-MT edition to celebrate the stick shift’s return, while the 2023 Supra gets a handful of other updates too.

With the first-ever Miami Grand Prix set to take place in just over a week’s time, McLaren is celebrating the occasion with five special liveried 720Ss. The cars feature a color scheme that emulates what is used by their F1, Indycar, and Extreme E teams. The five cars will be used throughout the weekend for a variety of activities, including hot laps, a celebrity race, and as a display in the McLaren hospitality suite.


Suzuki Offices Raided In Europe In Diesel Defeat Device Investigation Concerning Stellantis-Supplied Engines

Diesel scandals continue to be a talking point as prosecutors in Germany, Hungary, and Italy raided the offices of Suzuki this week. The raids were in connection to Stellantis’ diesel engines with allegations that emissions defeat devices were used in Suzuki’s products, while parts for those engines were supplied by Marelli. The engines were reportedly put in vehicles at Suzuki’s production plant in Hungary that builds the SX4 S-Cross and the Vitara.

A school bus driver was captured on camera taking his duty a little too seriously. The video, captured by a no-doubt disgruntled construction worker, shows the yellow bus dipping into and powering through wet concrete. The clip went viral on social media, including on Facebook and Reddit, where most users are blaming the driver for this mess while others pointed out that drivers have to comply with strict rules when it comes to school bus routes.

Amazon Alexa Uses Voice Data For Targeted Ads, Say Researchers

A new report contends Amazon’s use of Alexa voice data, concluding that the online giant shares data from Alexa interactions with as many as 41 advertising partners. However, as reported by The Verge, Amazon claims it does not use voice data from Alexa to suggest ads on Amazon or other websites but confirmed there are targetted ads on its smart speakers that are from “ad-supported premium content.”


Twitter Users Up In 2022

Twitter has announced that its user numbers are up and grew faster than expected in the first quarter of 2022. Daily active users rose to 229 million, up from 199 million in the same period last year. It comes as Elon Musk is poised to take control of the social media network.
