In a recent video, Richard Hammond decided to take some time out of his busy day to answer the questions that come up frequently in the comments section of DriveTribe’s videos. As part of the video, he revealed the rather morbid end that his Morgan AeroMax will come to.
Answering questions about which cars he has most regretted selling in his life (spoiler alert: all), Richard Hammond explains that although he loved his Morgan, his wife was less fond of it. In fact, she hated it.
Finally, he gave in and sold it to a dealer and it was eventually bought by an Australian gentleman who may love it even more. Hammond says that although he sold it, he was also quite fond of it and harbored fantasies of someday getting back in touch with the man and buying it back.

In corresponding with the Australian owner, though, he discovered that he would not likely be able to do that.
“I learned recently that he has obtained permission for — and you need to do that — and promised to be buried in it when he dies,” explains Hammond. “Not until he dies, obviously, that would be stupid but once he has died, he’s going to be buried in what I still view as my Morgan AeroMax.”
And well he should because the car, of which only 103 were made, still has a plate on the rails alongside the engine that says it was “Made for Richard Hammond.” The Australian man has sort of made a better case for his ownership over the vehicle, though.
“Obviously, I won’t want to buy it back because it’ll have his corpse in it,” says Hammond. “Which, one of the nicer things about the car was the interior but a moldering Australian is not going to render it any nicer, is it? So, sadly that is one car that is very, very much and forever out of my life.”
