The Chevrolet Trax is an automotive oddity as the aging crossover starts at $21,400 and is only $200 cheaper than the larger and more modern Trailblazer.
While the Trax was expected to be axed, that’s not the case. Instead, a company spokesperson told Roadshow they’ll “reveal an all-new Trax later this year.”
Little is known about the redesigned crossover at this point, but the automaker elaborated when talking to Autoblog by saying “Chevrolet does not plan to abandon the important entry-level small SUV segment.” That suggests the next-generation Trax will once again slot beneath the Trailblazer, but hopefully there will be greater differentiation between the models.

The publication also reached out to Buick about the fate of its entry-level Encore, which is based on the Trax. Unsurprisingly, a spokesperson seemingly confirmed a follow up – or encore, if you will – as they said “Buick will continue to offer four distinct SUVs in the U.S. and Canada going forward.”
We’ll learn more details later this year, but the current Trax and Encore feature a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 155 hp (115 kW / 157 PS) and 177 lb-ft (239 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to a six-speed automatic transmission, which can be paired to an optional all-wheel drive system. This setup enables the models to return up to 24 mpg city and 32 mpg highway.
