UPDATE: Just hours after Porsche shared a teaser video hinting at a new 911 Sport Classic on social media and an allegedly official photo showing the rear end of the car surfaced on Instagram thanks to user Wilcoblok. The car has the same light bluish grey shade as the one teased but we now see the ducktail spoiler, gold badges and light brown-colored seating inside. Apparently, more pictures of the car have been posted to Cochespias here and here.
The 50th anniversary of Porsche’s legendary 911 Carrera RS 2.7 is right around the corner, and as such, the German automaker was rumored to be readying another 911 Sport Classic model to commemorate it. We’ve seen prototypes of this car floating around that all but confirmed its existence, but now it seems Porsche themselves may have teased it.
The teaser comes from a video shared to Porsche’s Instagram stories, captioned with the text: “Shades of the past. Stay Tuned”. The shade they are referring to is a light bluish grey called Sport Classic Grey, and it can be seen on a 2009 911 Sport Classic that makes a brief appearance in the video.

More importantly, though, are the moments in the video where we can see a new 911 in said color. These include quick glances of the headlight area, a peek at the characteristic 911 window shape, and a short glimpse at the hood, which appears to feature white racing stripes with blue accents.
Another part of the video shows a painter painting those stripes onto the hood, and in the background there’s a 992 rear decklid with a prominent ducktail spoiler, a defining feature of both the original Carrera RS 2.7 and the 2009 Sport Classic. In addition to the spoiler, this new 911 Sport Classic is expected to adopt a channeled hood, widened fender, a double bubble roof, and Fuchs-style wheels like the previous Sport Classic, with the rest of the styling mainly being borrowed from the current 911 Turbo S.

Power is expected to come from the Carrera GTS‘s 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six, which makes 473 hp (480 PS / 352 kW) and 420 lb-ft (569 Nm) of torque. The car will also likely feature rear-wheel drive, a manual transmission, and a notable weight reduction to place the same focus on driver engagement that the last Sport Classic did.
There’s no official date as to when this car will be revealed (the teaser just says to “stay tuned”), but if this vehicle is truly a commemoration of the 1973 Carrera RS 2.7’s 50th anniversary like most are expecting it to be, then a reveal this year with a release in 2023 would make that happen.
