Hertz Lays Out 17 European Road Trips Perfect For Electric Vehicle Drivers

Those who were afraid that the rise of the electric vehicle would spell the end of the road trip may now rejoice because Hertz has done the math and found 17 scenic, idyllic, picturesque driving routes around Europe ideal for the newfangled vehicles.

The drives take adventurers throughout the U.K., Germany, Switzerland, Spain, France, Italy, and the Benelux region for EV-friendly drives that will show you some of Western Europe’s best-known cities and landmarks.

There are, for instance, two tours in the U.K., one of which goes from East Devon to Dorset along 95 miles (153 km) of what is known as the Jurassic Coast. Famed for its dinosaur fossils from the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods, drivers will be able to see many landmarks of England’s only natural World Heritage Site as they stop at one of 21 EV charging points along the route.

In Germany, meanwhile, drivers will be able to visit castles at locations along three different road trip routes that go through either the Black Forest, the medieval walled towns of Bavaria and Baden-Wurttemberg, or follow in the footsteps of the Brothers Grimm.

A road trip spanning 994 miles (1,600 km) in Switzerland will give road trippers a chance to see the Matterhorn, Geneva, and the Abbey of Saint Maurice, while drivers can top up their EV at more than 300 chargers along the way.

In Spain, meanwhile, Hertz has recommendations for those who want to see the famous cities of Barcelona or Valencia, or who want to visit the birthplace of Pablo Picasso, Malaga. In France, there are trips along the French Riviera or the Alps depending on your preferences.

In Italy, road trippers can visit the Emilia Romagna region, home of the country’s most famous food culture. They can also visit the Amalfi Coast or see Northern Italy to visit Monza and stop at one of the 596 EV chargers on the route.

Finally, Hertz recommends that EV drivers visit Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Eindhoven, and Utrecht as part of a tour of the Netherlands, where they’ll have the opportunity to stop at more than 2,559 chargers along the way. Chocoholics, meanwhile, can visit Ghent, Brussels, Liege, and Luxembourg City on their tour of Belgium and Luxembourg.
