If you want the ultimate in luxury from Volkswagen, it’s impossible to look past the Phaeton and a particularly well-maintained example has found its way up for sale on Cars & Bids.
VW built the Phaeton from 2002 through to 2016 and over that time, five different generations of the car were released. As a 2004 model, this Phaeton is a first-generation model and is also a Premiere Edition, adding to its desirability.

Powering this Phaeton is a 6.0-liter W12 engine that was good for 420 hp and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque back in the day. This engine is coupled to a five-speed automatic transmission driving all four wheels through VW’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system. The listing notes that only about 3,000 examples of the Phaeton were ever sold in the United States, of which less than 500 were fitted with this W12.
Other key features of the car include 18-inch wheels, adjustable air suspension, power-adjustable heated wing mirrors, and a power sunroof. Some minor modifications have also been made, including the fitment of European-style VW LED rear turn signals, a 50-watt solar panel charger, keyless push-button ignition, a CoSTAR Technologies Bluetooth module, a Yatour digital media changer, and an upgraded battery.
As the Phaeton was sold as VW’s most luxurious car, the cabin came loaded with features you’d only ordinarily expect to find in a Mercedes-Benz S-Class or BMW 7-Series. These features include heated, ventilated, and massaging front and rear seats, a power rear sunshade, rear side sunshades, six-disc CD changer, four-zone automatic climate control, and even a heated steering wheel.
The listing notes that the car suffered minor damage during a crash in December 2015 but was repaired. It was also damaged in January 2019 when it was hit by a tree branch. Despite these incidents and the fact the car has been driven nearly 73,000 miles (~117,482 km), it looks to be in good condition.
