In just over a week’s time, we’ll get our first look at the future of Lincoln with a new “global” electric concept car. On Monday, the brand announced that on April 20th, it will debut a vehicle that serves as inspiration for fully electric vehicles coming in the near future. They even dropped a very cryptic teaser that gives us a little hint of what to expect about the concept that will likely preview the brand’s first production EV.
We’ve known for a while that Lincoln plans to release a number of new EVs in the coming years. Back in February, we highlighted a report that five new Lincoln EVs, including some all-new models, are slated for production by 2026. Right now, the company only makes four vehicles so this is a big shift.
Introducing a new EV concept is the brand’s way of testing the waters so to speak. “This is the best way to understand whether this new direction we’ve decided to take is acceptable and if people will fall in love with them,” says Ford’s chief design officer, Anthony Lo speaking to Autonews.

From the short teaser, it seems that this new Lincoln EV concept will be another SUV-shaped vehicle much like the new Lotus Eletre or the Cadillac Lyriq. Unlike those vehicles though, this one looks boxier.
The roofline of the concept is one defining feature that can be made out in the video and it’s sharp and angular in a way that most other SUVs aren’t. We can also be sure that Lincoln will heavily emphasize its brand logo which seems to have been inverted since the last teaser we received. It’s found both on the front but also on each quarter panel.
In the recent past, we’ve seen odd-looking Mustang Mach-E test mules that could’ve been Lincolns under the skin though we can’t be sure that the two are connected. Regardless of what the inside looks like, we’re excited to see it on April 20th.
Lincoln could potentially release its very first EV later this year as a 2023 edition so the reception this concept gets could play into that schedule. It’s a fitting way to celebrate Lincoln’s 100th-anniversary taking place this year.
