For the inaugural edition of the Miami Grand Prix, McLaren will celebrate with five 720Ss that sport its racing team’s livery designed especially for the event. They will be used throughout the weekend for a variety of activities, including hot laps, a celebrity race, and as a display in the McLaren hospitality suite.
The cars will be covered in a wrap intended to emulate the racing liveries of McLaren’s racing teams in Formula 1, Extreme E, and Indycar. The wrap features bright Fluro Papaya orange and accents in the company’s new shade of blue.
The tradition of McLaren finishing its vehicles in Papaya orange dates back to its earliest days as a racing team, when Founder Bruce McLaren could be seen driving his cars around the circuits of the world. The color was first used in 1967 for the team’s Can-Am race car and now it can be found on its Formula 1 cars, among others.

The 720S is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that makes an impressive 710 hp (529 kW/720 PS) and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) of torque. That allows the car to get up to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 2.8 seconds and up to 124 mph (200 km/h) in just 7.8 seconds. Prices start at $299,000.
This is not the first time the 720S has donned an F1-inspired livery. After winning the Italian Grand Prix last year, the automaker made a special 720S Danial Ricciardo Edition for customers in the driver’s birthplace, Australia. Along with being finished in orange and blue, the supercar also featured the country’s flag and Ricciardo’s signature.
Formula 1 has signed a 10-year deal with Miami to run this new American Grand Prix around the Hard Rock Stadium. Despite some local objections, the race is set to run on Sunday, May 8.
