Good morning and welcome to our weekly digest of automotive news from around the globe, starting with…
Greedy Toyota Dealer Commands $10,000 Markup Over MSRP For 2023 GR Corolla
Scalpers and price gouging are phenomena that have all too often reared their ugly heads since the pandemic. And while many of us expect to have to pay above market value for games consoles and houses, car dealers have long been muscling in on the action — and getting a bit too greedy in the process. To illustrate, we looked to get a spot on the waitlist for a new GR Corolla, only to be offered by one salesman a place for $10,000 over MSRP!

2023 BMW X7 Breaks Cover, And Probably Mirrors, With Bold New Face Destined For 7-Series And i7 Too
Sure to split opinion, the similarly split light design seen on the 2023 BMW X7 will be the new corporate face for all of the Bavarian brand’s luxury offerings. That means we should expect similar looks for the upcoming 7-Series and i7. Away from the drama of the exterior, the refreshed SUV gets a curved display angled toward the driver and drops the conventional transmission shifter. U.S. deliveries are set to begin in the fall.
2030 Tesla CyberTrail: We Envision An Electrified Jeep Wrangler Fighter
With the Cybertruck given a new release date of next year, we’ve started to imagine what an altogether different Tesla could end up looking like. Thanks to this independent illustration from CarScoops’ artist Josh Byrnes, we’ve come up with our own take on an EV Jeep Wrangler fighter. We’ve given it suitably chunky wheels and tires, a large 15” OLED infotainment screen, surround-view cameras, and dual motors. Could it have a place in a future Tesla lineup?
631-HP Lamborghini Huracan Tecnica Is A RWD Evo With A Sprinkle Of STO
Fitting in between the Huracan Evo and the slightly-mad STO is the new Lamborghini Huracan Tecnica. It looks tamer than the STO, but shares the same 631 hp (640 PS) V10 engine. There are some visual changes to differentiate it from the Evo, such as Sian-style bumpers up front and a tweaked side window shape. The most significant change is at the rear, which gets a lightweight, slatted carbon-fiber engine cover and vertical rear window. There are also new hexagonal exhaust tailpipes, a new bumper, and a rear diffuser that can, like the roof, be painted in body color or black, plus a small fixed rear spoiler.

Stellantis is hoping that a new electric era will see Chrysler rejuvenated after several years of being left to languish. Part of this plan is the Airflow Concept that was introduced at CES in January. For the NYIAS, Chrysler improved on the initial design with the Graphite Concept. The new car shows off a Galaxy Black exterior with Cyprus Copper accents. It previews an electric future for the brand, with the first Chrysler EV set to be released before 2025.

The saga brewing between Elon Musk and Twitter has been dominating headlines this week, with the company now opting to take a “poison pill” approach after Musk offered to buy the company. The Twitter board unanimously opted to adopt the limited duration shareholder rights plan. In it, if any person or group acquires more than 15 percent of Twitter’s outstanding stock, other shareholders will be able to purchase additional shares at a discount, reports CNBC.
