When Porsche throws a party it only makes sense that they’d do it at a race track so that’s exactly what it’s doing to celebrate 50 years of RS models. They didn’t pick just any track either, no, they’ll be celebrating at the world-famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway during a full weekend of Porsche races from September 2nd through the 4th.
Porsche also hopes to set a world record with a massive collection of its own GT cars. A special exhibition area will be set up for what it calls the “largest gathering of highest performance models developed by Porsche”. It’s not just a car show with some racing though.
The German brand calls this the Sports Car Together Fest and besides highlighting the 50-year anniversary of the 1972 911 RS, it will host a number of events including a Porsche eSports championship and Porsche one-make races on the real track too.

The Porsche Carrera Cup of North America will run rounds 13 and 14 of its 16-race season and the Porsche Sprint Challenge North America will make an appearance as well.
“Porsche at its heart is about community and passion. Coming together to celebrate some of our highest performing cars in action is like a family reunion for us,” said Kjell Gruner, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America.
“We look forward to welcoming enthusiasts, fans and just the curious to share the thrill of the track, the heights of sports car engineering in the real and virtual worlds, and the spirit of Porsche heritage.”
Porsche says that the weekend will also feature Porsche-centric events, programs, health and wellness activities, and displays around the facility for the whole family to enjoy. Another interesting highlight will be the Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge.
From what Porsche says, they actually challenge dealers across the nation to restore a classic Porsche and then bring it to the show to see who did the best job. Restoring cars can be a lot of fun but we imagine that showing off your finished product to the people at the helm of the company who made it to begin with might be a bit stressful.
Thankfully, spectators just get to sit back and enjoy all of the cool sports car content throughout the weekend starting on September 2nd. Information on tickets and the timing of specific parts of the event will be announced in the near future.
