Range Rover has added its high-performance HST trim to the Velar, making for a luxurious SUV with an extra bit of bite.
JLR’s new Ingenium straight-six will provide the motivation for the SUV, displacing 3.0 liters and pumping out 395 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque. The gasoline engine is connected to a mild hybrid system, the same as the one found in the Jaguar F-Pace. In the F-Pace, the hybrid system can provide 33 miles (53 km) of electric-only range, but Range Rover didn’t specify how far the Velar can be driven without tailpipe emissions.
Building off of the R-Dynamic S model, the HST receives a black contrast roof and full exterior Black Pack, and is also available in every color in the catalog plus the exclusive new Arroios Grey.
The new color and 21-inch Gloss Black alloy wheels add subtle nods of performance to the exterior of the Velar, while the inside is dressed up to the nines with Black Suedecloth headlining and steering wheel, as well as a sliding panoramic roof.

The HST is performance-centric, but that doesn’t mean that travelers have to deal with a firm ride – after all, this is a Range Rover. The Velar gains Electronic Air Suspension with Adaptive Dynamics, which monitors the road ahead and makes the necessary changes accordingly.
In this day and age, air filtration is a thing, especially in premium products, and Range Rover has dealt with that with Cabin Air Purification Plus. The technology can sense when CO2 levels have reached their threshold and introduce fresh air into the SUV.
Topping it all off is the latest version of Range Rover’s safety suite, including Adaptive Cruise Control with Steering Assist, which helps keep the Velar centered in the lane. The Park Assist Pack also does what it says on the box with the aid of a 3D surround camera.
The high-performance HST trim was first introduced on the Range Rover Sport and Evoque models and will be available on the Velar for 2023. Pricing for the US models has not been released, but in the UK the Velar HST comes in at £73,815 ($96,247).
